Be sharp. Be thoughtful. Be grateful.

“Be sharp. Be thoughtful. Be grateful.”

Be sharp. Be thoughtful. Be grateful.

I was escorted into the drawing room. Inside, there was a man of a Western origin. This man had created and built a global company over his lifetime. The room had two sofas in it and there was a white-haired gentleman sitting with his back to me. He was wearing a checkered vest over a white shirt and a pair of slacks.  He was slightly chubby, no tie and greeted me in a casual way.

Along the walls of the room, there were wooden squared bookcases with beautiful English books neatly lined up. Immediately on my right as I entered the room, there was a simple wooden desk matching the bookcases. He offered me a seat, so I sat down facing him.

Then he abruptly said, “There are only three important things to succeed in business.”.

“First, groom yourself appropriately. It is very important for your customers to feel comfortable with your appearance. Second, have conviction about the future. The customers pay you for your deep convictions. Convictions that have been carefully thought through. Third, be grateful. Do not take any work for granted. Be grateful for any chances you have been given to work.”

“That is all.” He said. Then stood up. I said, “I understood.” That was the end of my dream.

I believe that to live well is to connect me to great work.
“Be sharp. Be thoughtful. Be grateful.”
